About this model
This is a representative concrete gravity storage dam with an embedded vertical Francis turbine-generator. It is not a literal copy of one facility. Components that vary by project—surge chambers, fish passage, outlet works, and switchyard placement—are shown as auxiliary systems.
The drawing is a composite engineering cutaway. The generating-unit bay, spillway bay, outlet bay, and environmental passage would normally sit beside one another across the width of the dam; they are brought into one readable section here so their connections can be inspected together.
The live power estimate uses P = ρgQHη with 92% combined efficiency. The model distinguishes the turbine runner from the complete turbine, and the hydraulic passage from the dam’s internal access galleries.
Component notes distinguish typical equipment from project-dependent features and have been checked against U.S. Department of Energy, Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and FERC technical material. Exact geometry and operating practice still vary by plant.
